The 1 idea to let go of!

This is one simple thing I stopped thinking that changed a lot for me!

“The beginning of freedom is realising that you are not the thinker. The moment you start watching the thinker, a higher level of consciousness becomes alive!” — Eckhart Tolle

So this is one line in The Power of Now that basically sums this all up for me.

I’ve read this book a few times now and the first time I read it, I thought about how fluffy it was, that it was naive and too spiritual and ‘deep’ for me. I read it, thought it was a great ‘idea’ and then moved on.

This time when I read that I actually thought about it, and then decided to actually test it out in the real world!

Whenever something came up (thought, emotion, reaction) that I didn’t like or was stopping me from doing/being something I would firstly recognise it and then secondly step out of it and ask why this is coming up and if it is serving me right now. If it is…awesome! If not, can I just let it go? Probably can!!

This just meant being two things:

  1. Mindful and aware of my thoughts, feelings and emotions
  2. Detached from those thoughts, feelings and emotions and able to question them openly

Many of us forget that we can literally treat our thoughts as another person, telling us certain things, telling us what to believe, etc. It is usually when that mind tells us that “we can’t do it,” or “we’re not good enough,” or “who are we to do something?”

When we DO realise that we are not our mind and its thoughts and that we can look at those thoughts from an outsider’s perspective, we can then get through them.

LOVE to hear your thoughts/feelings about this and any stories or experiences you have this too at alex@alexjeffery.me

BE well!
